Is The Pokemon White Version 2 Worth Buying?
With the release of the sixth generation (Generation VI) Pokemon inching ever closer, it would be a good idea to reminisce about one of the last Main titles in the franchise, namely, Black 2 and White 2. In this review, White 2 will be under scrutiny because I wanted to have its version exclusives.
Plot: 7/10
The plot has a 7/10 rating for several reasons. But it must be said that the plot has its downsides including the fact that it’s still the same traditional formula adopted by Nintendo since it first released the original versions, namely, the Red and Blue, more than a decade ago. Basically, a 10-year old youngster is provided with a starter Pokemon before undertaking the endeavor of his life – to become a Pokemon Champion. In this case, you’re the youngster.
In order to achieve the main goal, you have to secure all the eight gym badges from the Gym Leaders, beat Team Plasma, and defeat the Elite Four. Team Plasma, which makes a return from the sequel’s predecessor, is the evil group out to derail your plans but the team in White 2 is different from the original. In White 2, Team Plasma is divided into two groups – first, a group that follows N as well as believes in the equality of Pokemon and People; and second, a group with the typical ambitions of taking over the world while following Ghetsis and using an ice-shooting airship.
Such an internal struggle between the two factions of Team Plasma, if you can call it in that manner, makes the plot more thrilling and gripping in nature. But there’s also a disappointing aspect to it because the Black and White version’s Team Plasma neither wanted world domination nor a rare Pokemon collection. Instead, the team just wanted more equality between People and Pokemon – or in other words, for the pocket monsters to get better treatment.
But with Team Plasma being fractured with one faction being too similar to the game’s antagonists, the questions just seem out of context in the sequel. The main question here, of course, is the issue of who exactly are the bad guys in the game.
Is it the player for enslaving the cute creatures? Is it N and his organization with its PETA-like goals yet with bad methods in communicating their noble points to others?
Fortunately, there’s a good side to offset the bad side. If you’re the type of player who loves defeating the bad guys, then you will like the new Team Plasma because the first group isn’t into peaceful protests while the second group is into exciting battles.
Plus, Game Freak found itself a new challenge. In Pokemon tradition, the third game ends up being an updated version of its predecessors, thanks to the addition of new pocket monsters and forms to capture, but nothing radical to shake up the system. But since Game Freak has significantly more creative control, not to mention that it’s been two years since the prequels, there were cool additions to White 2.
Gameplay: 7/10
Unfortunately, the gameplay was neither changed nor significantly improved from the previous titles. Aside from the typical formula of ramming through every Pokemon encounter and getting to the Final Boss, the game developer also removed the emphasis off the nonsense musicals and, in the process, placed the spotlight on the Pokestar Studios.
Honestly, I enjoyed the side quest no matter how small it may have been. For the newbies, Pokestar Studios can be compared to Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness’ Battle CDs. You will be provided with specific pocket monsters with specific powers as well as specific requirements for your task – or to put it bluntly, you are given a script of what you’re supposed to achieve.
In contrast with the Battle CDs, you can use your own Pokemon after completing a script for the first time. You will then have the opportunity to deviate from the script.
If you have a “Strange” ending, which means that you followed the script with the results being completely different because of your chosen moves, you will get two rewards – first, more money and second, your preformed Pokemon gets star glitter for use in battle. In between the battles, your virtual character (i.e., the youngster) also has the opportunity to tell its opponents certain things, which can have an effect on the movie. Afterwards, you can watch your movie, which should be enjoyable since there are fancy special effects in it.
After making a sufficient number of movies, you can build up a fan base with the fans providing a wide range of objects the actual type and number of which will depend on your movie performance. You will even get cool stuff if your movie performance impresses the fans. In case you’re bad in your movies, you will get so-called pity items.
Other features include tracking the amount of money raked in by your movie and unlocking scripts by finishing movies in the series or by achieving a certain amount in your movie’s gross receipts (i.e., the total amount of money earned by your movie).
You will also find the side quests a good idea. In Join Avenue, you will be given the entire business of a failing businessman and you have to make it better – and since it’s just a game, you shouldn’t be surprised that an adult will give an entire business for a 10-year old to manage. You can open shops, which allows for the easy purchase of hard-to-get items, the improvement of your Pokemon, and the increase of your business’ popularity through people interactions, among others.
But I have a complaint –you can only open eight shops and, for this reason, you cannot open more specialized shops since there’s no more room. You will also be required to kick someone out in case you want to provide them with employment. But this complaint aside, you should join the side quest as it’s a good way to be connected with other players.
Difficulty: 8/10
In comparison with its predecessors, the White 2 version is slightly more challenging, as is the case for most game sequels. You will start on one or two level difference at the start but by the time the sixth gym is in sight, you will find the game to be more challenging.
Then, the game hits your balls, so to speak, several times before running off like it has committed a felony. To put it bluntly, the Final Boss is at least six times higher in level compared to the Final Boss in the Black and White version.
Plus, there’s also the fact that the Pokemons’ Final Bosses are actually the Dragons. Didn’t we already have at least five other Final Bosses with Dragons?
But the fights aren’t too difficult but you have to use more than a single type of Pokemon and choose the cutest pocket monster. The game also ensures that you’re on the grind but there are times when it’s just too easy.
In the second gym, you will be placed in an area with Magnemite, a Pokemon with immunity to the gym’s main type. Magnemite performs moves similar to it later on although not at a level that you can just kick everybody’s butts with a floating magnet.
The wide range of choices in Pokemon in White 2 means that there’s no need to auto-select the pocket monster you want. You still have a choice.
Play Time and Replayability: 10/10
Puyo puyo 7 wii iso download. You shouldn’t take too long to complete the game if you plan on a brisk cruising pace coupled with some light grinding. In my case, I think I spent approximately 30 hours on the game because of the grinding.
But if you’re the type who wants to complete the game, you should have fun. You will find that the game has plenty of extra content, such as the area in the prequels that you can enter in the prequels but not in this version’s main story – you can actually go there now!

Also, the game still maintains a difficulty level within reasonable range, approximately 60 to 70. And then there are the other features, such as capturing all the pocket monsters, trading Pokemon and items with friends, finding every single one of the Hidden Grottos, and finishing all the Pokestar Studios, even getting the best Avenue possible.
There are times when I play the game just for getting a few Hidden Grotto stuff, which has a 5 percent chance of replenishment for every 250+ steps your virtual character takes in the game. I have logged in around 180 hours of game time and I’m nowhere near being close to being bored with the game.
FINAL VERDICT: 8/10
You will surely have fun with White 2 if you’re a game veteran. In case you’re a newbie, you are well-advised to pick up the Black and White originals first so that you will have a better and deeper understanding of the gameplay.
When we first tried playing the Pokemon Black and White Versions, we thought the developers couldn’t do anything better. However, they have delivered to their avid fans once again with the second version of the said games. It still has the same great graphics and a super improved storyline. Don’t be surprised if the storyline starts off differently compared to the first version’s plot. There are also new additions to this version, such as The PokeStar Studios and the DNA Splicers. If you want to combine Kyurem with Reshiram or Zekrom for a Black or White Kyurem, use the DNA Splicers. In my case, I created a White Kyurem, which helped me win my fights.

My cousin has a totally different perspective of the game. He said the game is not worth it because the developers only put the game together, not as a remake, but as a profitable game. I get his point but this didn’t stop my curiosity towards the game. I admire him for not buying this game though because of practical reasons.

When you start playing the game, there are still three starter Pokemon similar to the mode in the first versions of Pokemon White and Black. However, I’ve always detested this feature. The bonus in the second version is that you will have new Pokemon to choose from even at the start of the game, such as Mareep and Riolu. When you reach almost halfway, there is a free Zorua. This Pokemon can be played to your advantage since it can grow into a Zoroark once you reach Level 30. It can also evolve into the rarely known N’s Zoroark.
If you are still in the process of deliberating whether this game is worth buying, you should ask the following questions to yourself:
- Would you still be interested in the game even if it costs $35?
- Do you really enjoy playing Pokemon?
- Are you merely motivated to get this game because it is something new and you should have it if others think it’s cool?
Once you have answers to these questions, you’ll have a better time deciding whether you should buy the game or not.
